Represents an important part of Mexico´s tourist contribution to world culture.
The Tequila Trail was created with the intention of helping increase the competitiveness within the tourist industry and related sectors in the municipalities of el Arenal, Amatitan, Tequila, Magdalena and Teuchitlán, together with promoting our national drink "Tequila". Both are closely linked to the economic and cultural development in the region. Past centuries are reflected in valuable cultural heritage, archaeological monuments and unique, magnificent constructions takes you back to past times as history, art and architecture are blended in a unique way shaping places like no other: the path of Tequila to the Agavero Landscape. Familiarizing yourself with the route will show you what Jalisco tourism has to offer to world culture. Something you must not miss.
The Agavero Landscape and the old industrial plants already form part of the heritage of mankind. A meeting held in Lithuania during July declared its natural landscape a winner with world distinction for its outstanding universal value and cultural significance beyond borders.
This statement emphasizes the work already done since April 2009 with the Tequila Trail to the Agavero Landscape. Also in 2009 the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) signed an agreement with the Regulatory Council of Tequila (CRT).
The goal of the project is to help increase the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium companies (MiPymes) in the selected area where Tequila originated as well as to develop the Tequila Trail to the Agavero Landscape, creating a business network for the promotion of cultural and rural tourism. With a common vision we will develop and market tourist based products and services according to demands of the market.
This project is an opportunity for the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) or ´Fondo Multilateral de Inversiones´ (FOMIN) to closely collaborate with the private sector of Jalisco State, specifically with micro, small, and medium businesses (MiPymes) for the development of a specific region which is expected to produce a model capable of being copied- not only for other regions of Mexico but also other Latin American countries.
The Tequila Regulatory Council is responsible for managing The Tequila Trail for the Agavero Landscape. Tourists will have the opportunity to explore archaeological sites, old style houses, opal and obsidian mines, distilleries and the magnificent Agavero Landscape. Familiarizing yourself with the route will show you what Jalisco tourism has to offer to world culture. Again, something that you must not miss out on.
Throughout these archeological sites, outstanding examples of the Indigenous Culture of the Guachimontonescan be discovered in the ruins that form a series of concentric patterns from the towns of Teuchitlan to Magdalena. You can also admire the splendid buildings and architectural styles of the old Haciendas, Mansions and Taverns. These are only one of many choices that can be enjoyed by the sight seeing tourist.
You can also participate in the traditions of the harvesters and coopers for which the Agavero Landscape is the main attraction, or experience the vitality and history of local style markets, shops and of course, sampling the cuisine.
